COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
UNIT 1: Computer and OS History, Components - PowerPoint presentation and discussion.
UNIT 2: File Management
UNIT 3: Keyboarding - keyboardingonline.com. Students challenge themselves to improve their typing speed and accuracy with the goal of 40 words per minute with zero errors. The school purchases each student login and the program tracks their individual progress. Can be done at school or home.
UNIT 4: Internet Use and Safety - PowerPoint presentation and discussion. We will watch short videos found at netsmartz.org (I use a free DVD they sent me). We will discuss cyberbullying, identify theft, inappropriate content, predators, sexting, and safe Internet use.
UNIT 5: Microsoft Word
UNIT 6: Microsoft PowerPoint - We begin by viewing "Death by PowerPoint" (a pdf), then looking at a non-traditional BOLD use of PowerPoint, "Smoke: the Convenient Truth" (a PPT converted to pdf). My lesson plans for teaching basic PPT are HERE with project requirements.
UNIT 7: Microsoft Publisher - students create a variety of projects based on Publisher templates.
UNIT 8: Microsoft Excel - Lesson Plans, M&M Data Collection Sheet, How to Insert a Pie Chart.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II
UNIT 1:Prezi Presentations - Example 1, Example 2, Gradesheet.
UNIT 2: Virtual Field Trips - We begin by visiting Terraclues.com and completing two terrahunts: "Tutorial Hunt" and "Tallest Skyscrapers in the World". Students then create their own terrahunt using this gradesheet. Next, students create a virtual field trip using Google street and aerial view screenshots and PowerPoint or Prezi to share them. UNIT 3: Web Design - Students learn basic HTML programming (using Notepad and the following "cheat sheets": HTML1, HTML2, HTML3, HTML4 and then create and publish their own websites using the free site, webstarts.com. Webstarts Gradesheet.
UNIT 4: Cloud Storage. Students learn more about the future of online "cloud" file storage and sharing by researching four of the top free cloud storage sites and presenting their findings. Here is my introduction PowerPoint and the project Gradesheet.
UNIT 5: Digital Graphics. Students use Paint Shop Pro and other software to create and edit graphics.
